As you know, as we mentioned in a report yesterday, sony’s studios are currently in a domestic conflict. Sony uses its small studios to feed its star studios, which in some cases cause internal conflicts. There’s no good news for Days Gone 2 either by developer Bend Studio. According to reports, Sony has rejected plans for a sequel.
If you’re waiting for Days Gone 2, don’t wait
A new Bloomberg report contains new details about the development of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first-party games. It is said that Sony’s focus on blockbuster star games has been to the detriment of the “niche” teams in it. The first example of this loss is reportedly the Sony Bend studio, whose plans for Days Gone 2 were cancelled in 2019.
Bloomberg says that “although the first game was profitable, its development took a long time to develop and its critical responses were mixed, so Days Gone 2 was not seen as a viable option.” Jason Screier claims that instead, a team in the studio was assigned to help Naughty Dog in a multiplayer game, and another team was commissioned to work on a new Uncharted game under naughty dog’s supervision. What we understand is that Sony feeds small studios to their big studios.
According to the report, Bend’s developers claim the studio leader wanted to be removed from the Uncharted project because they feared the studio would be dismantled and is now working on a new game on their own. However, this internal conflict is said to have resulted in huge divisions. Writer/Director John Garvin and Game Director Jeff Ross announced their departure from US-based developer Oregon in December.
Bloomberg’s report also claims naughty dog is working on the remake project of the original The Last of Us game for the PlayStation 5.
