DICE last week added Zombie Survival mode to Battlefield 2042, in which a small team of people were battling against hordes of zombies. However, this mode was quickly taken off the air and replaced by Gun Game.
Justin Wiebe, design director at Ripple Effect Studios, one of the studios that helped Battlefield 2042 with game mode and expansion packs, explained that the mode provides XP beyond what was predicted, and that the mode was quickly taken off the air because players realized they were skipping levels very quickly.
“We removed zombie mode and replaced it with Gun Game. Hopefully we will be able to fix this mode and make it compatible with standard game progress. We are also tightening our testing processes to avoid such a problem again. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
The mod also received mixed reactions from the players, with Wiebe saying “I think this mode had potential but we need to work on it a little bit more. However, we are still focused on the most important issues such as XP progress for BF Portal.”
In another response to messages on the subject, Wiebe said that Zombie mode should not have passed the test stage, and that their desire to make a fun zombie mode made them overlook something so simple.
In short, Battlefield 2042 continues to disappoint players at full throttle.
