THQ Nordic says “Native 4K” has been disabled for the Biomutant PS5 version “for technical reasons.” Instead, the game runs in 4K resolution upgraded from 1080p. It can also be played on Xbox Series X at Native 4K and 60FPS frame rate.

Biomutant can be disappointing on PS5
Running at 60FPS frame rate with dynamic 4K resolution on Xbox Series X, the game will also run at 1440p/30FPS on Series S consoles. The Biomutant PS5 gameplay video released this week states that the native 4K resolution option in the game has been disabled “for stability and performance reasons.”
In another statement posted on Twitter, THQ Nordic said: “For technical reasons, we have disabled local 4K on PS5 for the streaming version of the game. But the PS4/XBO version is already performing better in the current generation due to more powerful hardware. The local version is coming for the current generation, but we can’t share any more details yet.”
Biomutant will be released on May 25 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and is being developed by Swedish developer Experiment 101. With its action role-playing game world and mechanics, it has been on the radar of many gamers. However, it seems that the Biomutant PS5 version will be slightly behind the Xbox Series X version.
This is thought to be due to restrictions on the way Sony’s console handles backward compatibility updates. Enabling next-generation performance features such as 120FPS in the game reportedly requires the developer’s effort on PS5, while Microsoft allows such features to be added with a backward compatibility patch.
Since the release of both next-generation consoles, a number of games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars: Squadrons, Call of Duty: Warzone and Rocket League, have received performance updates for gamers on Xbox Series X. These updates have not been released for PS5 users. Another example is mass effect: legendary edition supporting 120FPS in Series X and not on PS5. Xbox Series X performs better than ps5 in some games thanks to improvements in hardware and backward compatibility.
