News for BioShock 4 has washed ashore. According to a job ad filed by the company, the series is not expected to take place in Rapture or Columbia, where the new game features previous games. However, the new game will be an open world game according to the job advertisement.
New details revealed for BioShock 4
Developer Cloud Chamber is currently looking for employees to fill 17 open positions. One of these vacancies is looking for “a senior writer to be tasked with bringing the world of BioShock back to life once again.” The job ad was spotted by PCGamesN and then includes: “We hope to find someone who can create effective, character-driven stories in an open world environment.”
While the first two games of the series are set in the underwater city of Rapture and the floating city of Columbia, a job advertisement seen in August 2020 suggested that BioShock 4 would be set in a new and fantastical world. The job ad for a senior technical sound designer describes the game as “an AAA narrative-oriented FPS project with character and personality.”
Cloud Chamber is looking for an AI programmer to “detail and finalize the design and implementation of an urban crowd system and sometimes hostile AI for systemic tribal ecology.” At the same time, the team is asking the top world designer it’s looking for to combine handmade set pieces with emerging AI behaviors “to create a vibrant world that gives players diversity at every step of the game.”
It seems that BioShock 4 will be an open-world FPS game and wants to have vibrant cities. According to Kelley Gilmore, global studio president of developer Cloud Chamber, the game’s development team also includes experienced players from famous series such as Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and Battlefield. This can increase the expectation of the game in both storytelling and FPS dynamics.
He previously said in 2019, “As part of our recruitment efforts, we are looking for people from many different backgrounds and experiences.” “I’m sure the depth and variety of game development experience in Cloud Chamber will lead to an unforgettable BioShock.”
Of course, there’s one more detail here. Director Ken Levine, who appeared in past plays in the series, will not be involved in the new project. This suggests that in many ways there will be different aspects of BioShock 4.
