Panic, which made its name mostly with Mac software, has moved into the gaming world in recent years and has been the publisher of the hit indie game Firewatch. Panic announced a rather bizarre handheld console last year: Playdate, which has a lever on the side and will also use it in its games.
There wasn’t much information about the console after that announcement, so I guess some people even thought it was a joke at the time. But Panic announced in July that they would start taking pre-orders for Playdate.
This handheld console costs $179 and no official release date has yet been set.
Panic also announced the first accessory for Playdate. With Playdate Stereo Deock, you’ll be able to charge the console when you’re not using it and use the Bluetooth stereo speaker feature. There’s also a pen-laying place on the speaker, and it comes with its own pen, ๐
Of the 24 games on the console’s Season One roster, 21 have also been announced. Playdate owners will have new games for 12 weeks, 2 games each week.
