YouTuber PrestigeIsKey (Ryan B.), a fan of The Game Awards, was poking around on Ebay adverts to win a replica The Game Awards award, but a real The Game Awards award.
When Ryan asked the seller where the award came from, he replied that “it came from one of our liquidation sources, other than that, we don’t know the source of the product.” Ryan nevertheless agreed to take the risk and bought the prize for $375+ cargo. The product you get is a really bloody The Game Awards.
According to the plate at the bottom of the prize, this is the award for Best Independent Game won by Celeste in 2018. So what’s this award doing on Ebay?
Developed by Extremely OK Games, Celeste was one of the best games of 2018 and won numerous awards. Extremely OK Games say they received the award on stage from Ninja in person, but then the show’s organizers retracted it by saying “we’ll mail it” and never received it again.
Ryan contacted the developer for that information. At this point, it should be said that Ryan, in a well-intentioned move, offered to send the prize to Extremely OK Games, whereas if he did, it would be possible to sell it for higher sums in the future. Extremely OK Games also offered to pay for Ryan and send him a few signed Celeste games in return.
As a result, Extremely OK Games got the award they deserved after 4 years, and Ryan B. won the signed Celeste. Happy ending.
