With the release of Tom Clancy’s The Division in 2016, the game became the first IP to be completely original under the Tom Clancy umbrella since 2009, breaking multiple Ubisoft sales records. The game series continued to evolve with Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 being one of the most successful games of 2019, and the 2020 expansion, The Division 2: Warlords of New York, was the most active chapter in the game’s history.
Alain Corre, Associate Director of Ubisoft EMEA, explains: “The Division has evolved from a very ambitious project at Ubisoft in the last 5 years to a world-famous series that has grown to 40 million unique players. We are very proud of what our teams have achieved with this series and the amazing universe they have created. The potential and depth of this allows us to discover new and exciting content that will delight The Division’s long-term loyal fans and similarly newcomers.”
As part of this expansion of the series, Ubisoft today unveiled Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland, a brand new, free-to-play game in The Division universe. Its development is being pursued by the Red Storm Entertainment studio, which has also worked on The Division and The Division 2 and has close ties to Tom Clancy licenses. Ubisoft also announced plans to bring the universe to an even wider audience by moving the The Division series to mobile.
Finally, The Division 2 will receive another brand new content as part of an update in late 2021. With the support of Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Massive is leading the development of this new content, which will include a completely new game mode and new ways to level agents with an emphasis on increased configuration diversity and applicability. More details about this new update will be announced before publication.
