Another announcement that has been expected for months; Crystal Dynamics has announced the development of the new Tomb Raider game. At the same time as Epic Games released Unreal Engine 5 to full release, Dallas Dickinson, managing director of Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider brand, also announced the new game.
Dickinson said. “This new game engine takes storytelling and gameplay to a new level; we’re excited to announce that work has begun on the next Tomb Raider game, which is currently being developed with Unreal Engine 5. Our goal is to give our fans the high-quality cinematic action adventure experience they deserve from both the Crystal Dynamics brand and the Tomb Raider series.”
In January, the post on the 25th anniversary of the series said that alternative timelines of the next Lara Croft adventure were planned to be combined with the original Tomb Raider games and a reboot trilogy, while underlining that fans should not expect this trilogy anytime soon. This new game may be the first game of the aforementioned trilogy, but there is no definitive statement yet.
Meanwhile , Days Gone director Jeff Ross announced on Twitter that he was joining Crystal Dynamics as Design Director. Ross hasn’t explained what project he’s involved in. One possibility is that he may have come for tomb raider, and another is Perfect Dark.
In the coming days, more details will come in about the new Tomb Raider game and whether Jeff Ross is involved in this project or another project.
