Crytek sent a warning letter to the maker of the mode, which added an informal Photo Mode to Crysis 2/3 Remastered;
Created by Frans Bouma, this Photomode mode, Crysis 2 Remastered and Crysis 3 Remastered; a mode that has no function other than creating beautiful scenes and taking photos, and many players have shown extra interest in these games just to take photos with this mode. It’s not really possible to understand Crytek, and the fact that they took this kind of attitude towards someone who advertised their games for free and was extremely enthusiastic also drew a serious reaction from the players.
Considering Crytek’s close ties to the mod community at the time, it’s really interesting that he’s suddenly making a move that will take this community against them.
Frans Bouma posted the following letter, explaining:
“So Crytek doesn’t want thousands of people to share screenshots from their games on social media and other sites. For your information, I didn’t use any game elements; My camera tools only contain files I’ve compiled from my own code, and they’re not connected to any game elements.
I’m someone who’s created photo modes for more games than anyone else on this planet; For more games with Nvidia Ansel support and photo mode than the sum of games combined. I’ve always had enthusiastic responses from both game publishers and developers because they liked to have their free ads done.
But Crytek crytek, not in their hands, they’re going to shoot themselves in the foot. If I need to remove Crytek 2/3 Remastered photo mode mode modes that have nothing but to add photo mode to these games, I will do so, but I will never develop a photo mode for any Crytek game again.”
Bouma explained that after these developments he removed the modes, saying that “I don’t have the time or energy to fight them, not removing these modes would only create them to advertise, so I decided to remove them and never share them again.”
