Cyberpunk 2077 online mode was one of the topics that managed to make a name for itself before the game even came out. The bad news has come for the upcoming online mode, which will be a separate game that CD Projekt RED marks 2022. The studio’s next AAA game will not be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game as previously planned, the studio’s parent company CD Projekt announced Tuesday.
Cyberpunk 2077 would be released as a separate online game
Following a wide-ranging CD Projekt strategy update, the company’s president and co-CEO Adam Kicinski said the company was “reconsidering” its plans for the game. Early last year, they announced that their new project, Cyberpunk’s online mode, would be released as a separate game with the title AAA. The Cyberpunk 2077 online project, which they consider a standalone product, is likely to be shelved for now.
Kicinski “We previously implied that our next AAA title would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but now we’ve decided to rethink it,” he said in a video released Tuesday.
“Given our new, more systematic and agile approach, instead of focusing primarily on a great online experience or game, we are focusing on one day bringing our entire series online.”
After this announcement, the conference asked to verify which games were in the development process of CD Projekt RED. Kicinski respondedto multiplayer games by saying:
“We are changing our approach to online games. That’s why we definitely want our future games to be online, but step by step. That’s why we’re working on specific features that develop single player games. So we are not working to publish the next game as a great online experience. We want to improve our single player games with online experiences.”

An important point was also emphasized here. Changing the company’s strategy will not lead to a radical change. The studio will continue to make the kind of plays it has made for a long time. The description reads:
“Let’s emphasize here, CD Projekt RED makes AAA RPGs focused on single player story, this will not change. What is changing is our long-term online approach. We want to make sure that we prepare our games to use online elements where they make sense. We don’t want to lose our DNA.”
Although Cyberpunk 2077 is cancelled online at the end of the day, it’s not that when you hear them, you don’t feel like “Witcher 3 Online”.
