Will Microsoft Activision Blizzard, Sony Bungie; and Nacon, france’s famous publisher, stand idle? Nacon announced the acquisition of Daedalic Entertainment. The deal is worth 53 million euros, or about $60 million.
Germany’s Daedalic Entertainment was a well-known developer, especially with the Deponia series, but then it began to come to prominence as a publisher by releasing successful games such as Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Felix the Reaper, Jars, Hidden Deep. The studio is finally Lord of the Rings. Gollum was working on it.
Considering that Gollum is published by Nacon, we can say that there is already a close relationship between the two companies. Daedalic’s current executive team, CEO Carsten Fichtelmann and COO Stephan Harms, will continue to run the company, highly independent of development and broadcasting, Nacon announced.
Alain Falc, CEO of Nacron, said, “Based on our collaboration in Gollum, we can say that Nacon and Daedalic share the same values and have adopted the same goal to provide players with unique experiences. So moving this collaboration forward was a logical step forward and we are incredibly happy with this acquisition. This represents an important step in Nacon’s strategy.”
Now, let’s get to the part where we’re more interested. Daedalic Entertainment was one of the publishers that applied local pricing quite well for us. If you look at the list of games they have released on Steam, you will see that the prices are extremely affordable. In fact, some games cost between £2 and £5 on discounts, which are actually cheaper than water.
Nacon, on the other hand, does not increase game pricing to AAA level, but still keeps it above a certain level, its games are usually sold for between 100 and 200 liras. If Daedalic leaves its publisher ID to Nacon, it will now sell future games with a deal at a higher price. And that’s the negative part of the story for us, I guess.
