John Garvin, creative director and author of Days Gone, says players should buy games at full price if they like them, rather than buying them as part of services like PlayStation Plus. The game designer who participated in David Jaffe’s YouTube show answered questions about the current state of the game.
Days Gone team leader’s reproach to players
John Garvin answered the question on Jaffe’s YouTube program about whether there has been a meaningful increase in interaction for Days Gone since the game was added to the PlayStation Plus Collectionon PS5:
“I have an idea about something that might be of interest to your audience, and that may anger some of them. If you like a game, buy it for the full price. I’ve seen players say ‘yes, I got this on sale, I got it on PS Plus, anyway’.”

Jaffe responded by asking Garvin, “But how do you know you love a game until you play it?”
Garvin said, “You wouldn’t understand, but don’t complain if there’s no sequel to an unsupported game during launch.” “God of War received millions of sales during the launch, and you know Days Gone didn’t. I speak for myself as a developer, I don’t work for Sony, I don’t know what the numbers are.”
“I can tell you that we suffered a lot of damage in Dark Mirror (PSP game) (this part was changed because it contained profanity) because it had a pirate status. Sony didn’t really understand how much pirated games affected sales. And we’d show them torrents, there were 200,000 copies of Dark Mirror downloaded on a torrent site. I may have misremembered the numbers, but no matter what, I was very angry at the time. It was like I was getting money out of my pocket.”
“So the increase in the interaction of the game, did you buy the game at full price? I don’t think it’s as important as his question. Because if you did, it means you’re directly supporting developers.”
During the four-hour interview, Garvin also answered questions about whether he had been fired by Sony. “I’m not a great person anyway, and I’ve been trained a few times, not tried,” he said, stressing that his departure from the company was not about his performance, but about his personality. Garvin, who admitted to being fired from Days Gone developer studio Bend, also addressed different topics during this interview. You can also read the claims about Sony Santa Monica at the link below.
