The Diablo 4 director and co-game director once again emphasized that players will not spend real money to improve the abilities of their characters. Diablo underlined that this situation, which came to the agenda with Immortal and was heavily criticized by the players, would not be in the new game.

Diablo 4 will not pay to win
Blizzard has released a new “quarterly update” on its website. Game director Joe Shely introduced the game’s live service system, and in particular the “Seasons” mode, which will start from scratch with a new character each season. “You’ll need to create a new character to play in the new season, and you’ll experience new seasonal features and content as you level up alongside other players,” Shely said.
“This will allow your effort and skill, measured by both dexterity and theory building in Diablo IV, to determine how strong your character will be. It will also allow players who missed last season to be included in the game. This season’s design requires all character power-up resources to be obtained by playing the game. So you won’t be paying to get stronger in Diablo 4.”
At the same time, he said that there will be rewards related to the Season Pass feature, which are similar to the battle pass logic but can only be obtained by playing the game. The paid Season Pass will only reward cosmetics and premium currency. Thanks to this, players will not have to pay real money to strengthen the character. The premium currency in question can only be spent on cosmetic purchases.
When Diablo Immortal has received a lot of reaction from the players on this issue, the developers are trying to gain the trust of the players that the pay to win concept will not be valid for Diablo 4. Unlike Immortal, which is actually a good game but kills its full potential by missing out on in-game payments, the new Diablo game will focus only on cosmetic purchases for real money. The game is expected to be released next year.
