Blizzard’s free-to-play Diablo game Diablo Immortal was to meet players in China on June 23, but the statement from Blizzard shows that the release of the game has been postponed. Considering the number of players in China, such a last-minute postponement of a release that would significantly increase Diablo Immortal’s revenue has also caused question marks. We are talking about a game that earned $ 24 million in revenue in about 2 weeks.
“We regret to inform you that the scheduled release of Diablo: Immortal on June 23 has been postponed. Our team of developers is working on various optimizations on the game – device support with more models, maximum graphics quality on some models, experience, network and performance optimizations, and more,” the statement reads.
Although Blizzard did not say a new release date on this statement, it also said that players would be given gift items as an apology.
Why they leave optimizations to the last minute is a mystery, or whether Diablo Immortal, which debuts in the rest of the world, does not have these optimizations. But there’s probably another reason behind this postponement. Weibo, one of China’s largest social media platforms, recently banned the official Diablo Immortal account for “violations of relevant laws and guidelines.”
The game did not receive the green light in Europe from the Netherlands and Belgium and was banned in these two countries due to its loot box content. In China, there are no restrictions in this direction.
