The Covid-19 pandemic continues to hit tournaments and organizations. The Dota Professional League Winter tournament, Dota 2 Winter Major, has been cancelled due to increased Covid-19 cases and worldwide travel restrictions. The latest blow of Covid 19 to the gaming industryhas not pleased dota 2 players and especially the teams participating in the tournament, because players think Valve made this decision very, very late.
Dota Professional League Winter Tournament lost to pandemic
The Dota 2 Winter Major tournament would normally be played within the next month. Valve stated that the 1st round of the 2021-2022 season will end after the regional leagues are completed and the awards will be distributed to the players participating in the Fantasy league before the start of the 2nd round. Points to be earned in the first Major tournament of the season will be distributed equally to major 2 and major 3 tournaments.
The decision was met with considerable negative reception in the Dota 2 Esports communitybecause the decision taken so late caused serious problems for the players of professional Dota 2 teams. Teams are reacting to Valve both because their points will be distributed late and because of the financial losses they have entered. The $500,000 prize pool to be distributed to the teams participating in the tournament has now been cancelled
