I want to tell you about a genius, a madman, and a bad character as he can be.
Dr. – Ivo – Robotnik !
Aka Eggman!
Egg!
Dr. Ivo; Eggman said. Robotic Story
In 1991, Sonic made a rapid entrance into the world of gaming and brought with him a man named ‘Eggman’ who would become his arch-enemy in the future. Designed by Naoto Oshima, this character was originally a mad scientist.
Well, if I told you that this character goes way back a long way in terms of design. He was inspired by someone who was president of America in the early 1900s.
There’s Theodore, or Teddy Roosevelt for short.
He’s the 26th president of the United States. President. If you ask what it has to do with Eggman, eggman is said to have been inspired by a caricature of Theodore Rooswelt in pajamas. Glasses, mustaches and that pointless face.
As you know, Eggman has another name for movies, cartoons, comics, etc. Dr. Ivo Robotnik! And why is it like this?
In fact, it’s an effort to completely westernize it. The villain, named as an egg in his homeland, becomes Dr. Ivo Robotnik as he sails abroad.
Interestingly, Eggman has an IQ of 300. That means he’s the smartest person on earth, but the weird thing is that he succumbs to one hedgehog at a time.
Our friend is originally an inventor. Many inventions such as Death Egg, Death Egg Robot, Metal Sonic, etc. work beyond its current era. Maybe they have robotic designs that an ordinary person would never be able to do. In the 2020 film Sonic, sonic even managed to unleash an incredibly large energy from just one strand of hair, but as I said, he succumbs to one hedgehog at a time. That makes us think about 300 IQs a little bit more.
Ok.
Good, nice… but what’s the point of this egg?
What is the source of this unsymapped anger and hatred?
Eggman’s or Dr. Ivo Robotnik’s greatest goal is to capture the emeralds of chaos that are of great importance in the Sonic universe and to build the Eggman empire between the planets. The endless ambition of this machete-wielding friend who supposedly wants to control the universe and time comes from here at some point. To control everything!
On the other hand, it can be said that Dr. Robotnik was a megalomaniac at some point.
For example, he named his petite robots badniks inspired by his own name.
Badniks designed brilliantly by Dr. Ivo Robotnik…

Now, so far, we’ve talked about how brilliant Eggman is, how crazy, what a bad character he is. And this guy we call Eggman, has he always been this bad?
Eggman doesn’t have a story told in Sonic, just like any other character.
On the contrary, as with other characters, there are comics that close the gap.
Not to mention the summary;
Dr. Ivo Robotnik’s story is told in the Sonic comic book published by the British company Fleetway in 1993:
Dr. Ovi Kintobor…who is the inverted version of the name Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
According to the story, Kintobor works in an underground laboratory and designs a machine to absorb all the negative energy from the planet. The goal is to destroy all evil on the planet Mobius. In fact, around this time, the hedgehog crosses paths with our friend and a friendship is formed between the two. Watch out, the protagonist of the series is brown in those days.
And yet Sonic provides assistance for Kintobor thanks to his impressive speed.
Affected by this speed, Kintobor invents a shoe for Sonic. Thanks to this shoe provided by Kintobor, Sonic is able to run faster than the speed of sound and uses this ability in the aforementioned experiments. However, an accident occurs during this experiment, and due to the resulting explosion, Sonic’s color turns from brown to blue.
So according to this story, sonic, which we know as blue for years, is brown beforehand. It’s the first time he’s heard that, and if you think it’s a little weird, you’re not alone.
But the real bombshell is hidden in the rest of the story.
The day after this accident, Sonic comes back to the lab. The welcoming Kintobor goes to the kitchen to offer our little friend something to eat. But there’s only one rotten egg in the fridge. When Kintobor says, “We’ll only make this egg better with a little salt for six months,” it gets caught in the wires, causing another accident.
As a result of this accident, Kintobor, a kind scientist, becomes megalomaniac Ivo Robotnik; or it can be said that it turns into a rotten egg both in terms of appearance and ideas.
I don’t know if you’d be surprised if our hedgehog friend is brown anymore, that things have come this far as a result of hitting a cable, or that only 6-month-old rotten eggs are better off with a little salt, but that’s the brief summary of the story in the comic book.
Eggman became a playable character in 2001 with “Sonic Adventure 2” and is also the first ‘human’ character to be played in Sonic games.
In fact, we meet Eggman’s grandfather in this play and in the series Sonic X, which airs almost two years later. He is Gerald Robotnik, the professor who designed Shadow the Hedgehog. There’s no doubt we can see where he got his image from.
And yet, when I say “games, animes, comics, etc.,” Eggman is ultimately adapted for the screen. The person who gave life to this role was the successful actor Jim Carrey. Who else could play such a genius, crazy, evil character anyway?
