One of the popular agendas of the gaming world in recent years is studio acquisitions. This sometimes comes across as small studios coming under the umbrella of the big companies in the industry, and sometimes as sensational news, such as Microsoft’s acquisition of Zenimax and its in-house studios. This time, the news of the purchase will be in the first group; Electronic Arts has acquired Metalhead Software, known for its Super Mega Baseball series.
EA Sports General Manager Cam Weber; “As people who all enjoy playing Super Mega Baseball, we have been respectfully following the work of the Metalhead team for a long time. A series of Super Mega Baseball series that is very enjoyable for those who love sports games to follow with their own style and play with friends. We are pleased to have the opportunity to support this team and invest in them; thus, they will be able to make more games for sports game enthusiasts from all over the world.”
Purchase negotiations began a year ago, following the release of Super Mega Baseball 3, and are now in the final stages. The Metalhead front seems to be very pleased with this deal; they say they are given access to new technologies and a much wider audience of players.
Weber added that the acquisition is part of Electronic Arts’ growth strategy. So new moves could come from the EA front in the coming days. We’ll see if it’s good or bad for gamers.
