EA Games has been frequently brought up in recent days with news that the FIFA series will be renamed. We recently told you that the company is considering this issue and is focusing on the name alternatives that will change the FIFA series for next year. They were even named EA Sports FC. The real reason the company wants to make changes to the naming rights was revealed today.
EA pays $1 Billion for FIFA naming rights
According to the New York Times, the real reason for the dispute between EA Games, the developer of FIFA games, and FIFA, the world’s soccer organization, stems from the royalties requested. According to the report, FIFA wants to demand $1 billion every four years for EA Games to use the name under license. The organization also wants to limit EA Games’ use of the game to make money in extra situations.
According to the New York Times, EA Games is considering different ways to make money for the series, including the NFT. FIFA, on the other hand, seems to want to prevent the fee paid for the naming rights from being limited to the game name and to obtain different earnings through this name.
The EA also removed the biggest question mark in their minds and said the FIFA partnership was different from other official partnerships, meaning that although FIFA’s name changed, it did not mean the loss of official team and player names. Apart from the name, the FIFA license gives the company the logo of using the World Cup in-game and similar rights.
