Electronic Arts says it is “considering” the idea of renaming the FIFA series. If the idea of renaming the FIFA series becomes a reality, the almost 30-year relationship between EA Sports and the International Association of Football Federations will end.
EA considers pulling the strings of FIFA series
Cam Weber, president of EA Sports, said in a press release regarding the release of FIFA 22: “Looking ahead, we are also considering the idea of renaming our global EA SPORTS football games.” Weber also made it clear that this name change cannot affect the extensive partnerships and licenses of football games: “This means that we are reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is completely separate from all our other official partners and licenses in the world of football.”
EA does not specify why it wants to change the name of the famous series or under what name the series can be renamed. However, in his statements, he repeatedly refers to them as “our EA SPORTS football games” rather than FIFA. EA and FIFA formed a partnership for FIFA International Soccer, which was first released in 1993. Electronic Arts, which has released at least one FIFA game every year for decades, holds one of the best-selling game series in history. After Konami changed the name of the PES series to eFootball, he is reviewing pulling the strings of the FIFA series at EA.
