The XFire site recently reported that EA attributed battlefield 2042’s failure to Halo Infinite; and COVID-19. This story has been revised up to “Halo Infinite is the culprit for Battlefield 2042.”” There were even headlines on Reddit that read, “DICE and EA blame everyone but themselves for this trash game.”
However, EA issued a statement on these reports and said the tone of what was said at the meeting had been misrepresented.
“These stories don’t accurately reflect the discussion and context, what was done there was a very humbling internal conversation about battlefield’s release,” says John Reseburg, vice president of communications at EA. “The purpose of the conversation was to evaluate what we learned and the steps we would take, not to blame external factors”
In fact, EA has previously attributed the negative reviews of Battlefield 2042 to the challenges, performance challenges, and design choices of remote working during the pandemic. However, the mention of Halo Infinite’s name is new.
Xfire did not directly cite it, but quoted its own commentary, saying that the comparison between the two games did not improve in their favor because Halo Infinite was a highly polished game, while Battlefield 2042 was not polished.

It is a fact that recent games affect each other’s outputs. Some games can even change their release date to avoid falling into these situations. However, Halo Infinite is not to blame for Battlefield 2042 receiving such negative reviews, which EA has already acknowledged.
