We have previously stated that Electronic Arts will not continue its agreement with FIFA and is preparing to relinquish the fifa name for football games. It was a question of how EA could leave a settled name like FIFA and replace it with an equally memorable name, and rumor has it that name has been revealed: EA Sports Football Club.
I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound like a very striking name to me.
Jeff Grubb claims the game will be called EA Sports FC for short. Grubb says he saw the trademark documents, initially thought it was a feature like an online mode in games, but when he did some research, he found out it was the name of the game. We’ll probably get fifa-like EAFC letters when we shorten the name. Of course, the use of this acronym can cause some legal problems, because teams like East Aurora Football Club already use this acronym.
Grubb says we’ll start seeing the trailer for the new game very soon, and we’ll hear the new name soon. Normally, FIFA games would start promotions as early as June, but if such a big change is to be made this year, it makes sense that advertising campaigns will start earlier.
EA’s ten-year FIFA deal expires after the Qatar World Cup in November. We’ll see if EA will use the fifa 23 name or EAFC 23 for the last time in this game when the introductions start to turn.
