Electronic Arts’ recent desire to use a popular webmammal backfired, and the studio’s tweet sparked a lot of negative backlash.
The meme implies that you’ve met someone perfect, but he has a huge flaw, and says, “They;re 10, but…”, which means “He’s a 10-point guy, but…”
When Electronic Arts used this meme in the form of “They’re a 10 but they only like playing single-player games” in exactly the way one would expect from it, the reaction was not delayed. The vast majority of the 7,000 or so responses were 🙂
Among those who have reacted are well-known YouTubers like Jackseptice, to Obsidian developers, and even EA’s own employees. One of the most serious reactions came from Zach Mumbach, who produced games such as Dead Space 2 and Dante;s Inferno at Visceral Games.
“The company that shut down my studio and fired about 100 talented developers because we were making this one-man game,” Mumbach said.
When the backlash was endless, Electronic Arts sent out another tweet and said:
“We deserved to be scalded this way. We’re going to accept defeat because playing a one-man game actually makes them 11 points.”
In other words, among all the studios, only Electronic Arts would send such a tweet 🙂
