From Software released update 1.03 for Elden Ring, which went on to nerd some of the capabilities accepted as OP in the game. This patch includes some nice innovations as well as balancing.
For one thing, the most important change that comes with the patch is that the map has also started marking the NPC and vendors encountered. So you won’t have to take notes or look at wikis to remember where you met the NPC or vendor. They’ve also added NPCs that can be called to more parts, which is probably brought in to cover some of the damage to nerf-eating talent.
You can find the new NPC Jar-Bairn in Jarburg. Until this update, Jarburg was thought to be a pleasant easter egg because there was nothing you could do to this pottery city, presumably jar-bairn de Alexander added as a continuation of his mission.
Speaking of Alexander, diallos / nepheli loux / kenneth haight and gatekeeper gostoc missions are also said to have added new stages. Of course, if you’ve already killed some of them (like Gostoc), we’ll only see new missions in NG.
Now to the nefs. The first notable on the list is the reduced damage caused by Mimic Tear. Mimic Tear is an extremely powerful Spirit Ash, and some players even passively watched the boss die by unleashing their improved Mimic Tear on the boss. Mimic Tear is a good tank again, but it’s not as effective as it used to be.
Another popular OP weapon, Sword of Night and Flame, has reduced the damage considerably.
The actor’s girlfriend, Hoarfrost Stomp, is also a serious nerf-eating weapon. Both reduced damage (more than half) and increased animation time. So there’s no way you’re going to stomp me every second.
Bloody Slash is another weapon capable of eating nerf. The damage it does to you is increased, the damage is reduced, and the animation time is increased again. It was possible to eat gargoyles comfortably with Bloody Slash, now they will eat you.

- Added a function to record an icon and the name of an NPC on the map when you encounter that NPC.

- Fixed a bug which incorrectly displays multiplayer area boundary when playing online.
- Fixed a bug that allows the player to activate Erdtree Greatshield’s weapon skill without absorbing an attack using a special combination of items and incantation.
- It is also fixed a bug which causes Fire’s Deadly Sin incantation to have different effect.
- Fixed a bug with the Ash of War, Determination and Royal Knight’s Resolve, where the damage buff will also apply to other weapons without that skill.
- Adjusted the visual effect of unseen form spell.
- Deleted the Ragged armor set from the game which was mistakenly obtainable in the previous patch.
- Fixed a bug that causes some hostile NPCs to drop Furlcalling Finger Remedy.
