Although Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney saw steam deck as a great move by Valve and praised its open platforming, fortnite didn’t give much good news to players who planned to play on the Steam Deck.
As you know, Fortnite is not a Steam game, but since Steam Deck is an open-platform handheld console, you will be able to install and run any game you want as long as it meets the conditions.
However, the answer to the question “Will Fortnite and Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye Proton be updated to work in” was not very positive. Proton is compatibility software that enables Windows-based games to run on Linux-based SteamOS.
“Fortnite is no, but we’re working to improve Easy Anti-Cheat compatibility on Steam,” Sweeney said. Sweeney said they don’t feel confident that they can fight cheating under different kernel configurations, so they don’t want to deal with updating or supporting Fortnite.
In fact, Sweeney agrees, a gigantic Fortnite-caliber game isn’t easy to fight cheaters. Steam Deck probably doesn’t think the benefits are worth the effort.
