Bethesda will announce new developments in the future of Fallout 76 at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, June 13, but they have made an important announcement before that. When September comes, we’ll say goodbye to Nuclear Winter battle royale mode.
“When we first introduced Nuclear Winter mode, it was exciting that so many players and new players from our community had tried our own approach to the Battle Royale genre. But as time went on, we found that the vast majority of players preferred to explore other aspects of the game. However, it was also becoming difficult to create nuclear winter lobbies that were full without sacrificing match waiting times,” says Bethesda.
“On the one hand, we’ve noticed that it’s becoming harder to make meaningful updates for Nuclear Winter while developing and supporting exciting new content for Adventure Mode. When we think about all this, we intend to end Nuclear Winter mode with the update we will release in September. We know that some of you love Nuclear Winter mode and are disappointed with this news. The decision to cut our support for this fashion was not an easy one. We would also like to say that we will make up for it for everyone who has participated in Nuclear Winter mode, from those who participated in a single match to the most experienced players.”
So what, not every game necessarily needs a Battle Royale mode. It’s a good thing Bethesda noticed it before it was too late and didn’t spend any more resources.
