Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida announced that the popular DVO has surpassed 24 million players and has become the most profitable game in the Final Fantasy franchise to date. Considering that endwalker, the game’s new expansion pack, is also approaching, the number of players is expected to increase further.
Toshida also shared the steady increase in the number of players in Final Fantasy 14. The game opened with four million players with A Realm Reborn, bringing the number of players to 10 million when it came to stormblood, the third expansion pack. Final Fantasy 14, which has more than doubled in the number of players in the four years since, is moving decisively towards 30 million players.
Yoshida emphasized that they will not spare any expense to ensure that the game continues to be a game that players will enjoy.
The huge decline of World of Warcraft must also have had a significant impact on final fantasy 14’s player count. We’ve seen a lot of games called WoW-killers, but in the end, FF14 seems to have done it.
Endwalker expansion will be released on November 23rd for PC, PS4 and PS5.
