Final Fantasy XIV must be one of the best examples of how to feed an online game with new content. In this way, it has been able to protect and even expand the player community for years.
> Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker – Review
But it also increases the technical burden, the number of players rising very quickly can bring some infrastructure problems for such games. As a matter of fact, when there was a very high demand with the Endwalker expansion, FF XIV sales were suspended for a while and new players were prevented from entering the system because the server infrastructure could not respond to this demand. Fortunately, this did not last long, as of January 25th it was announced that FF XIV sales would resume.
In the announcement, which includes a wide variety of information about the game; The Oceania data center will be commissioned on January 25, about two weeks earlier than planned, and there will be an expansion of the data center in Japan in the coming period. Similarly, a two-stage expansion is planned for the data center in North America, the first in August this year and the second in Spring or Summer next year. A similar situation applies to the European data center, with expansion planned in July and the summer of 2023.
Long story short, it looks like there will be a capacity increase in the coming months to host more players and provide a better gaming experience. So they don’t seem to have any intention of going away for a long time, leaving the square for new games:)
The announcement also noted that if there is too much demand, they may once again suspend sales. Let’s see what kind of picture we’re going to be up against on January 25th.
