Shortly before its release, Nintendo gave the Japanese press the opportunity to try out their new game Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Famitsu, who is famous for being quite strict in his reviews, also touched on details that will attract gamers interested in the series with his Pokemon Legends reviews.
Pokemon Legends reviews point to a fresh experience in the series
After the special event, where Nintendo allowed the press to try the game, Famitsu praised the game for moving the Pokémon series in a new direction, saying:
“We can safely say that the new game is completely different from the previous games of the series. The first thing that impressed us when we started playing was the refreshing feeling of walking freely through the vast space.”
In the game, where we can also use Pokémon as mounts, the Famitsu reporter also praised the game’s new discovery mechanics, saying it is more exciting to navigate the open world, especially when using a flying type of Pokémon. The report also touched on the game’s boss battles, saying that the Kleavor battle featured in the trial version was surprisingly difficult for a Pokémon game, but not to a very debilitating extent to win.
For the game’s highly curious combat mechanics, it was stated:
“The new system that combines action with traditional Pokémon battles is extremely successful, and especially appreciative of the fact that Pokémon battles are a ‘tool for a different purpose’ that fits the game’s worldview. And the first time in this game, your human character can be attacked directly by Pokémon, you’ll feel a lot of tension when you discover a challenging Pokémon.”
In the old games of the series, human characters who were coaches took refuge behind pokémon, giving commands only to Pokémon who fought for themselves.
Famitsu’s editor underlined that what he found particularly impressive in his experience in ending his comments was the construction of the world. Noting that he was very impressed by the blending of the same old Pokémon battles into new and innovative action without any discomfort, the editor concluded his report by heralding a unique gaming experience in the series and great promise of Pokémon gameplay.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be released exclusively to Nintendo Switch on January 28. The open-world structure, which was partially tried in Pokemon Sword &shield before that, will dominate the entire game.
