Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe began expanding, it has brought dozens of characters from the pages of comics to the screen. Leaving aside the lead roles of these characters, many of the characters in the side role were spent a little quickly. So I’m talking about characters who can’t show their potential when they have a lot more stories that can be processed. There are probably some names that have stuck in everyone who watches the MCU. It doesn’t necessarily have to be very big characters, but it is enough to make you question “what a beautiful color this character added to the universe, where is this element?!”
Of course, there are some names that Marvel Studios have been quite cruel or it has not made much sense to go into the depths of the business. In my opinion, I’m going to talk about the five characters that the MCU spends, but as I said, everyone’s expectations and realities may be different. So if there are names in the MCU that you think are not reaching their potential in the MCU, which is 999999in1, do not hesitate to write them. Now if you’re ready, let’s take a look at the MCU’s casualty list;
5-) Fast Running Maximoff;un. – Quicksilver x2
When Brothers Wanda and Pietro joined the ranks of the MCU, there was no Fox deal yet. So neither Wanda nor Pietro could have been mutants or linked to Magneto at the time. The MCU’s first Pietro was based on Sokovia-based experiments. Like his brother Wanda, experiments with Mind Stone resulted in MCU-style Quicksilver having superhuman speed. When we first saw Pietro in the post-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, too many theories began to emerge, and it was not possible to think of him separately from his brother.
But then what happened? He thought one Maximoff would be enough for the MCU universes. During Avengers: Age of Ultron, Pietro Maximoff, who fell victim to an accidental bullet just as he found his place in the ranks of the Avengers, said goodbye to his MCU days before he could catch his full momentum. The only thing left behind was to leave another nightmare fuel to Wanda, who had experienced/will experience endless trauma throughout her life. A long time has passed and Disney + series have started broadcasting.
Bending reality, Wanda naturally wanted to create a Pietro as well. But the MCU brought in Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver in Fox’s films, to make perhaps the most expensive word joke in history. It turned out that the character Evan Peters played was not actually Pietro, but a man named Ralph Bohner. Marvel Studios, which spent not once but twice on Quicksilver, managed to go down in history in this sense. For the time being, there is no Pietro of Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Peters in the universe. However, with so many variants emerging, a new Pietro may come running from somewhere.
4-) Where are the rulings of this universe?! – Betty Ross and Father Ross (Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s view of the Hulk/Bruce Banner can even be considered a complete waste. The MCU, which spent the Hulk perhaps not as stage time but as characterization, for the sake of drawing everything into extreme humor, thus blocked a kosque corpus with gamma radiation. I’m not exaggerating when I say a whole corpus, because the Hulk has a very special place in Marvel comics. In the history of the Hulk, the series in which even Wolverine appeared for the first time, there were some very nice villains besides Abomination. Especially with the introduction of the Red-Hulks, the Hulk films could have gone in another direction in an instant.
The relationship between Aslıdna MCU and Hulk was always strange. Edward Norton, who played the lead role in The Incredible Hulk, the theoretical second film of the MCU, hastily left the universe and was replaced by Mark Ruffalo. General Ross, Thunderbolt, whom we watched as one of the main enemies of the Hulk in this first film, actually had a great potential. Not only with his obsession with the Hulk, but also with his power in the military part of the universe, he could have taken things to a completely different point. Even his transformation into the Red-Hulk with the death of his daughter afterwards had the content to carry a film on its own. Of course, all these stories would be too heavy and serious into the MCU’s hilarious atmosphere, so we couldn’t watch Thaddeus Ross go beyond the malevolent Hulusi Kentmen, who glowed like a straw flame.
Betty, another Ross;u Bruce’s only lover of the universe, is not inferior to her father. While we know him with his love and goodwill for Bruce, Marvel’s love of Betty;i shape-to-shape has never ended. Early in the Hulk comics, A.I.M. intended to kill the Hulk by turning into a gamma mutant named Harpy. Betty, who literally experienced the transition from green to red just like her father, was even a Red She-Hulk for a while. Since we can’t see Betty in a tiny role as she goes beyond the calming effect, we won’t be able to see Red She-Hulk or Red Harpy. Because in the MCU, the Hulk’s first goal is to joke and the second goal is to save the world.
3-) Marvel, Mar-Vell, It;s Not Going Very Well – Mar-Vell
In Marvel comics, I don’t really like the cosmic part of it. But the Captain Marvel corpus was a place I suddenly found myself in, especially when I said the Kree-Skrull wars and the road to the Secret Invasion. Long before Carol Danvers, we actually had a genuine Marvel. So to be exact, there was Mar-Vell. Marvel, who belonged to the Kree race, was known as Walter Lawson in the world. The MCU initially decided to make Mar-Vally a woman by making a change here. Wendy Lawson, who we saw in the Captain Marvel movie, was the real Captain Marvel in essence.
However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which attaches too much meaning to Carol Danvers, did not hesitate to eliminate any elements that could steal roles from her in the film. In other words, they could not evaluate Mar-Vell, who had a huge corpus beyond that, except to put responsibility on Carol in one film and die. To me, that was the biggest potential that the MCU expended, because with Captain Marvel, they started to put a lot of weight on the cosmic side of things. In the Kree-Skrull part of the work, it was a rather pointless decision to go straight to Carol without going through Mar-Vell in detail.
But over time, we’ve seen that Marvel has inflated Carol Danvers to create a VERY STRONG female character in their universe. They spent the character just to put Captain Marvel, who is already quite strong as a power scale in the comics, even more prominently. However, Brie Larson, who plays Carol Danvers, is unlikely to be wasted by Kamala as she has a better contract than Annette Bening. I hope the Carol toys they sold were worth the money they spent on this huge cosmic corpus.
2-) Task Manager Terminated Very Quickly – Taskmaster
After reading some of the characters in the pages of comics, you can’t wait to see them in a game or movie. For me, Taskmaster was falling into exactly this class. I always want to have an epic boss in games where I can fight with Taskmaster. Because his reflexive memory makes any kind of fight extra difficult and naturally extra epic. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe said goodbye to the original Avengers members, Black Widow wanted to make a solo film set in the past. Although the film was made to prepare Yelena, they ultimately promised a Black Widow vs Taskmaster fight.
Yes, there was such a fight, but there was only so much that it existed. Because they were not able to process Taskmaster’s character, nor could they convey his arrogant speeches, or even any of his speeches in general. The beautiful character suddenly fought and self-destroyed someone in an android-like atmosphere. You know, it was like doing “ctrl+alt+del” and closing taskmgr.exe;. Neither did Natasha get the epic fight she deserved, nor did I get the Taskmaster watch as she deserved. I hope that in the future of the MCU, maybe Taskmaster will come again. But if it’s coming, I’d rather come as a variant and as irrelevant as possible from the Black Widow movie.
Now that we’ll see plenty of street-level close combat, it might be great to watch Taskmaster as a contract killer hired by Kingpin against Daredevil, for example. For Matt Murdock, whose every move is counter-attacked, it would be a very tough and enjoyable fight to watch. Because he likes to make arrogant jokes about certain topics in comics, he can also sit in the humor of the MCU.
1-) Lack of Vision – Vision
You might say; “How could the Vision, which has appeared in two Avengers movies and one in the aforementioned series, be spent?!” Let me explain right away, dear Gamewalkers. Let’s put the comic book history completely aside and rewind the calendars back to Avengers: Age of Ultron, the movie where Vision debuted in the first MCU. Along with Jarvis’ artificial intelligence and Ultron’s superior technology, Vision’s journey to relearn the world like a baby was a very interesting subject. However, since this process would shift to philosophy rather than comedic elements, it was rushed in the background as “look how he learns, I am the coach”. Vision, who has always been kept in a partisan position through her relationship with Wanda because they want to put Wanda Maximoff in a key position in the universe, has only aimed to fill the trauma quota necessary for the emergence of Scarlet Witch, just like Pietro.
If the story of Vision, who was killed by Thanos during Avengers: Infinity War, had ended right there, I might not have thought so. Because they would have underused Vision, which completed its purpose with Mind Stone. But the MCU took it to an even more absurd point. In WandaVision, we saw Vision, who was reborn by Wanda;s reality twist (or came back as Wanda’s dream self), as the cute family man in the comic book series, when things started to get into chaos. When the chaos began, Wanda, whom the MCU wanted to bring to the forefront, sent Vision out of the series by saying, “Go see if I’m there?!”
The most memorable scene from the whole WandaVision series was the dialogue between the two Visions and the dialogue they did, Theseus;s Ship. However, the studio, which did not even give comfort to the dead body of the character, finally threw Vision into the middle of nothingness. I don’t really think what kind of visionlessness this is. However, a completely different Vision story could have been created based on the series written by Tom King. Instead of inflicting suffering on Wanda, we could even watch a Vision trying to live like a human like GORA’s 216. Like the Mar-vell/Carol relationship, Vision, whose main purpose was to give meaning to Wanda, disappeared not once but twice, disappearing among the MCU’s high-grossing pages.
It might have been possible to add Peggy Carter to this list until the What If cartoon series arrived. If it wasn’t for Falcon & Winter Soldier, my list top would probably have changed and been replaced by Baron Zemo, but I was very happy with the performance of Daniel Brühl in that series and we will probably be able to watch him a little more with the announcement of the Thunderbolts movie. Iron Man 3’s spending on Mandarin was also quite jarring at the time, but then I found it logical that Tony Stark had to deal with much bigger troubles because the genuine inclusion of Mandarin would lead to a greater spend. When it comes to spending characters, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has a very large arsenal, does not get used to its hand as a coward. We will probably say goodbye early to the many characters we love in the future. But I hope they don’t show that attitude to the X-Men guys, or we might be pretty much on the road with Kevin Feige.
