Mikael Nermark, former CEO of Starbreeze Studios, has died.
Nermark, 50, was diagnosed with cancer last year, Liquid Swords founder Christofer Sundberg wrote on Linkedin announcing his death.
“On behalf of Mikael’s family, we regret to inform you that Mikael has passed away due to cancer,” Sundberg said. “He was a wonderful husband, a wonderful father, a great friend, and will always live in our hearts.
“Mikael fought cancer a lot for a year. His power under these circumstances was truly inspiring and gave us all a perspective on life.”
Mikael Nermark worked at Starbreeze for 11 years until he stepped down as CEO in October 2020.
Prior to joining Starbreeze as vice president in 2009, he was a board member for six years at the studio’s U.S. subsidiary and CEO of Overkill Software for nine months.
