Frogwares has announced that it is working on a new game. Because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, they stopped developing the open-world game they had been working on for some time, and now the team is working on a completely different game.
Frogwares shared a few concept drawings from this new game called Project Palianytsia and explained why they switched to this game:
“The reason we announced this game in this way is both to show the players that we are moving on and to show our middle finger to those who think they can enter our country and disrupt and ruin our lives.
Although challenging, everything we have released during the war so far has been existing projects that need to be finalized. Now that we’re making something entirely from scratch, it’s much harder to do that in these circumstances, and we had to think carefully about what’s realistic for us.
The name Palianytsia has a symbolic meaning for Ukraine, as it is part of our national dishes. But it’s also a word that Russians who try to make themselves look like Ukrainians fail to pronounce properly, so we can call them a phonetic Dark Souls. It’s often used in the field now, so we can quickly understand what’s with people we don’t know.”
Project Palianytsia is a Victorian game with Eldtrich-themed horror elements. The Sinking City and Sherlock Holmes series are said to be a game that will directly appeal to fans. We will receive new information about the game in the coming months.
