The Global Esports Federation (GEF), which aims to develop and expand esports and includes more than 100 federations around the world, held its first Global Esports Games (GEG) in Singapore this year. The Global Esports Games will be hosted by Istanbul in 2022.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) subsidiary Spor Istanbul, the first institution in Turkey to provide esports education, is preparing to organize a global esports event.
Spor Istanbul, which works closely to contribute to the development of esports players in Turkey by closely following the rise of esports with its approach centered on young people and innovative vision, has received the reward for its initiatives to realize GEG2022 in Istanbul. Nearly two years of talks with GEF have been positive. GEF officially announced that GEG2022, which will go down in history as geg’s second, will be hosted by Istanbul in December next year. Sports Istanbul General Manager I. Renay Onur attended geg2021 in Singapore with Turkish National Olympic Committee President Prof. Dr. Ugur Erdener, Turkish National Olympic Committee Vice President Ali Kiremitçioglu and Turkish Esports Federation President Alper Afşin Özdemir. GEG2021 brought together esports players from many different countries, especially the United States, China, Britain, Argentina, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. At GEG2021, eFootball22, Street Fighter and DOTA 2 tournaments were held. GEF announced that esports players will meet next year, hosted by Istanbul, on the last day of the event. GeG will be hosted by Riyadh in 2023, China in 2024, the UAE in 2025 and the United States in 2026.
