There was another sad news from the gaming industry, and it was announced that George Mawle, who starred in the last God of War game in 2018, had died. The cause of death of the producer, who left the team after working in the Santa Monica studio for a long time, was not disclosed, but there were statements from teammates, especially the game’s director, Cory Barlog.
God of War producer who designed Kratos axe dies
George Mawle, one of the main designers of the game’s fighting dynamics, also signed on to kratos’s famous axe Leviathan Axe dynamic. Mawle, whom Barlog referred to as Leviathan Axe’s father, was the man behind many of the gameplay-side dynamics, including the return of the axe.
It was announced by Mihir Sheth that the producer died on September 2. Mihir Sheth, who works in his Santa Monica studio and worked with Mawle on fighting dynamics, said in a statement: “If you enjoyed throwing and withdrawing the Leviathan Axe in God of War 2018 or turning blades of chaos’s chains, please take a moment and remember that this is largely possible with the engineering and energy of George Mawle. George Mawle sadly passed away on September 2, 2021. Like many during his more than 20-year game development career, I have sat next to or near George every day for over five years, working with him every day and I was very moved by this shocking news.”
Mihir Shet previously mentioned how good Mawle’s influence in the game was in a Tweet post in 2019. Cory Barlog tweeted: “George was an incredibly funny, intelligent and warm-blooded person. Leviathan was one of the fathers of the feeling of wielding his axe. Without his curiosity and intelligence, those moments of pure happiness in which we used the axe would never have existed. It breaks my heart that he’s gone. Rest in peace, brother??”
