Hackers are increasing their pressure on Nvidia. Earlier this week, a hacker group called Lapsus$ leaked Nvidia’s DLSS source code, giving the firm until Friday to make its demands. The hackers have two important demands. One was the removal of the cryptocurrency mining limiter added against crypto mining on RTX 30 series cards. The other was that Nvidia shared the open source code of rtx graphics card drivers.
Hackers are causing Nvidia a serious headache
Nvidia, of course, did not take either of these requests seriously. Lapsus$ then hacked into Nvidia servers, seizing 1TB of user information, and according to Have I Been Pwned, that information has already been circulated among the hacker community.
The hacker group’s threatening message to Nvidia reads:
” We have another request from Nvidia, to fully publish the open source code of your video card drivers – for this and beyond – for Windows, Linux and macOs. If our request does not materialize by Friday, we will release silicone, graphics and chipset dosy of all your recent graphics cards (and graphics cards you will be releasing), including add-ons such as .v, .vx, .vg, including rtx 3090 TI. “
The hackers ended their message by giving Nvidia a choice. In exchange for Nvidia sharing open source codes for up-to-date cards and all video cards for the future, verilog and chipsets have threatened to keep their information private, or they will reveal everything they have. It’s not known if the hacker group broke their promises and distributed all of Nvidia’s secrets to the hacker community yesterday.
