When you look at the player headphones, you see an incredible number of alternatives. There are 500 very comfortable models in our country right now, believe me, I’ve never heard of half of them. But what’s interesting is that even the good brands in this crowd have their roots in producing mice, memory or motherboards. However, sound technology, sound engineering is such a unique field that if you put the game aside, not many brands can dare to enter. I think there’s a Sennheiser that’s got sound as its specialty and has entered the playground, and while the sound quality is great, they’re so unpretentious with a small number of models that lack function…
Now that’s changing because JBL, one of the best-known brands for sound and headphones, is finally getting into the gaming headset business. Part of Samsung-Harman, one of the world’s largest groups in the world for audio products, comes in a race against JBL and its size and reputation. This new series, called Quantum by JBL, features eight different models and uses all the features, technologies and even new technologies we’ve seen in gaming headsets to date.
Let’s Start with the Older Family
Today we will examine quantum one, the highest level of these eight models. This is a headset that specifically targets esports and competitive games, which you can use both pc and console wired, but shows its real skills on PC. In fact, it’s more than just the top level, it’s an ambitious model, so the ultimate is even higher. It already makes you feel the design when you take it out of the box and pick it up. Especially when you plug it into your computer from USB and fire up the RGB that surrounds it, you realize quantum one has nothing to do with modesty. It would be very disappointing if the back of this ambitious look was empty, but it’s so full of sound and technology that I have to tell it fast to fit on a page.
First of all, the 50mm Neodymium speakers inside Quantum One sound incredible. The player headphones, which reach this level in sound quality, do not exceed the fingers of both hands. The sound is very rich, saturated and has a very wide range of reactions (20Hz – 40Khz). Especially when listening to a quality microphone or instrument recording, you realize that you can hear even the smallest details. There’s also a detailed equalizer in the software that comes with it, so you can adjust the tones as you wish, I like natural tones, but it goes deep enough to make the lovers of abundant bass extremely happy.
I told you Quantum One was wired, and one of your key skills lies in the cable. It has a normal 3.5mm cable for console and mobile, on which there are only volume adjustment and microphone off buttons. But the USB cable you connect to the PC has an extra controller. This wide dial-up button lets you switch the volume between Discord and gaming audio. For example, discord has an unnecessary conversation and you want to focus on the game, you give the sound to the whole game. Or there’s nothing in the game, but there’s an important conversation in Discord, where you lower the game audio and focus on it. This feature, which is mentioned in English as “sidetone”, is available in the software of some high-end headphones, but this is the first time I have seen it turn into a button on the PC side..
As for Quantum One’s perhaps most innovative technology, “motion-sensitive positional sound”. This technology, called the Quantum Sphere 360 by JBL, allows the environmental sound that surrounds you to change according to the angle of your head. It’s crazy, but it’s also a meaningful idea. You know, the computer delivers environmental sounds according to your position, so you can decipher where the enemy is from the sound. But if you have headphones and you’re not looking at the screen at full right angle, you’re actually getting the positioning wrong. Quantum One’s difference is that it’s got an accelerometer, an accelerometer, just like a smartphone. Thus, when you turn your head, it perceives your movements very clearly and changes the positions of environmental sounds accordingly. This can be confusing for those who aren’t used to it. Because we address positional sound based on the screen, with quantum sphere 360 you need to get used to addressing the sound again in your own way. On the other hand, the differences are not very large, since the ordinary player does not turn his head too much during the game, does not look out of the screen, but esports players or ambitious competitive players can use this feature as a very comfortable advantage.
Is There a Microphone in the Ear?
Another “come on, honey, what’s this” feature is the calibration of Quantum One. You know, depending on the ear structure and the environment you’re in; Human-to-human sound settings can vary widely. To fine-tune these, Quantum One comes with an in-ear microphone. Look, it’s not an in-ear earpiece, it’s a microphone. You plug this microphone into your ear, you plug quantum one on it, and when you run calibration, the software directs you to calibrate. Meanwhile, Quantum One can hear exactly the sound inside your ear, so it can fine-tune and fine-tune.
On top of all this, Quantum One also has active noise cancellation. Moreover, the profile of this noise cancellation is adjusted according to the games. So if there’s a general noise in the area where you’re playing, for example, if your roommate is watching TV, if there’s a way through your proximity, it eliminates them with negative noise and allows you to play the game as if you were in a clean, quiet environment. However we see a lot in music headphones, I think we don’t see enough active noise cancellation on the gaming side. When I see how well Quantum One is doing, I can’t help but say that all high-end gaming headsets should be standard.
Look, so far, we’ve talked about six of quantum one’s key features, most of them in other unreadable gaming headphones. In other headset reviews, we have not even been able to get to important topics such as ergonomics, microphones, software that I mentioned at length. I mean, being ambitious, there really isn’t a headset that full of them. But on this first attempt at JBL, I think what it really accomplished is that while it was filling all these innovative features into a product, it didn’t pass up its core values. It’s a lightweight but robust size, very spacious and soft headphones, extra cushions on the crown, and an ergonomic headset that you can use comfortably for a long time. The removable boom microphone is both in a proper position and sounds good. You can do everything very comfortably through its software, even the first time I see such a stylish and meaningful profile structure when it comes to RGB tuning in a gaming equipment. I want to tell you these qualities at length, but seriously, my place is so narrow, it breaks my heart.
I’m obviously fascinated by Quantum One. Perhaps my only criticism is that the advanced features in the product only work on the PC. However, you can use Quantum One with mobile phones and all consoles. But even noise cancellation does not work except on the PC, because it does not have a battery in it. Unfortunately, this is a deficiency that we see in all wired headphones and the common destiny of console players.
Of course, we can also complain about the price of Quantum One, but I think it deserves more than $2,150. In fact, it is cheaper than the most expensive models of all the major brands on the market. So I don’t know who can sell which headset and which mind can sell in the range of 2,500TL – 4,000TL when Quantum One is so especially 2,150TL.
I don’t know of a competitor who can fall in love with Quantum One right now in high-end gaming headsets. Perhaps alternatively I would prefer the quantum 800 wireless model with the same features except motion detection, since it is much more affordable with a price of 1,700TL, but I do not want to talk big without testing it. But until then, this is the best player headset I can recommend to you.
