Action – Scalebound, which houses RPG elements and was originally scheduled to debut exclusively on Xbox in 2017, has unfortunately been cancelled.
In a new video posted on a YouTube channel called Cutscenes, Kamiya explains how Scalebound came about and why it was cancelled. Kamiya said of the game: “Scalebound was a project that we worked with Microsoft on. They expected good things from us and we had to meet those expectations with the project. This meant teaming up with Microsoft and releasing the game on the Xbox console (Xbox One). I had a desire to make a high-level play once again.
I’ve loved fantastical worlds since I was a kid. I’ve always enjoyed worlds of swords and spells and dragons. I’ve always wanted to do something around that theme. However, this presented a major challenge for platinumgames, which I was involved in.
We were working in an unfamiliar environment. We were making improvements to the Unreal engine. We also lacked the knowledge needed to build a game based on online features.
The obstacles we had to overcome were too great. We weren’t experienced enough and we couldn’t get through that wall. Therefore, I apologize to the players who are looking forward to this, as well as to Microsoft, which trusts us as a partner. As both creative and platinumgames member, I ask you to accept my apology.
