According to rumors, IO Interactive, the developer of the Hitman series, is developing a new Xbox exclusive game to be released under the umbrella of Xbox Game Studios. The report reportsthat the team is working on a dragon-themed special game for Xbox .
New Xbox exclusive game may come from Hitman developer
A video releasedby Windows Central Gaming suggests that the Hitman developer is working with Microsoft to work on a new “dragon-themed IP” that will reportedly be released under the title Xbox Game Studios.
The report refers to IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak’s GameIndustry.biz interview and confirms that the team is working on a previously announced James Bond play as well as other projects.
“Without going into too much detail, we have a third universe that we are actively working on, it’s a little different and it’s definitely a love child,” Abrak said in the interview. “This is something that our core employees, our experienced staff, have been dreaming about for some time.”
Jez Corden of Windows Central Gaming tweeted that Microsoft and IO have been discussing a dragon-themed IP for some time, and that this interview with Abrak suggeststhat the project is currently underway . This was also confirmed by Twitter user “Kobrille”,who specializes in reporting Xbox Game Studio news.
On the day the Abrak interview aired, Kobrille tweeted: “Sometimes game news may seem superficially boring, but there are gaming news that is actually the beginning of something ambitious and has a direct connection to Xbox. This “sometimes moment” happened this week.”
On the report of Windows Central Gaming, Kobrille said, “I’m guessing this is crazy. It’s too early, we’ve got years ahead of us, but it’s exciting,” he wrote. Abrak recently said it had received a series of “really attractive” purchase offers following IO Interactive’s departure from its former parent company Square Enix, adding that it ultimately chose to go it alone.
In addition to the dragon-themed IP, which is reported to be an Xbox exclusive game, IO is currently officially working on a James Bond game under the name Project 007. He also recently announced his new studio in Spain.
