Housemarque, which was a major success with Returnal and was nominated for eight BAFTA awards, announced that their next game will be an original IP.
Ilari Kuittinen, CEO and co-founder of Housemarque, which was acquired by Sony after the success of Returnal, which debuted exclusively for PS5 last year, says the studio’s next project is still in the concept phase.
“We are still in the early days of a new game, working on a new IP, creating concepts. Let’s see what comes out of it,” Kuittinen said in response to the question “would you consider making live service games?”
“Different experiences can coexist in the gaming world. It can be live service games, multiplayer games, games with different sensitivities. Returnal is one of the different voices. We are proud of what we have achieved with Returnal at this stage and we are excited to move forward on the same axis as a company.”
He has previously said that Returnal is a stepping stone, that his future games will be bigger and more ambitious. For now, there don’t seem to be Returnal 2 plans on the horizon, but if the new IP makes as much noise, we’ll continue to hear the name Housemarque a lot.
