Intel CEO Pat Gelseger said in an interview last year that the shortage of semiconductor chips will continue until 2023. Now, in a new interview with CNBC, He said the famine will continue until 2024.
The main reason for shifting the 2023 forecast to 2024 is that basic production materials are not yet sufficient.
He added: “We expect the semiconductor shortage to continue until 2024, according to our new forecasts. In this process, there will be various difficulties and the production of equipment will slow down. This means that companies will face obstacles in obtaining important production tools. In addition, there will continue to be some difficulties in meeting the increasing demands.
Intel is investing heavily in building new semiconductor factories in the U.S. and Europe. However, it takes a long time to build these factories.”
Console manufacturers, on the other hand, have been struggling with stock shortages for more than two years with the introduction of various measures resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and increased demand. In September last year, Xbox president Phil Spencer said console supply issues would continue until 2022.
