Years ago, when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was still out, Sony got off to a great start, starting Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. The second film in the trilogy, starring Tobey Maguire, is still being fingered by many Spidey fans, including me, as best Spider-Man film. Tobey’s place is very different, but there were so many iconic performances in the Raimi trilogy. One of them, no doubt, belonged to J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.
If Venom hadn’t gone into film as a result of Sony’s unnecessary suppressions, we’d be talking about a much longer-running Raimi-Verse today. However, the cancellation of the fourth film is still a major disappointment. Simmons has resented it in the past. “When they gave up the Spider-Man trilogy, it was a heartbreaking development. I was really enjoying what I was doing. I’m so glad I got a chance like this. I was fascinated when they came back to me after a long break and asked me to play this crazy character. They only adapted the character for 2020, and for me Jonah was still the same madman. He ran a huge media empire instead of just a newspaper.” summed up the situation.

Of course, even after all these years, the fact that Raimi-Verse was not forgotten opened a completely different door. Spider-Verse doors will open alongside Spider-Man: No Way Home, which we will see on December 17th. Tobey and Andrew will probably come back. Well, all that masked trouble can only be overcome by J.K. Simmons; J.J.J., played by J.J.J.
