Even though there are so many iconic superheroes in the DC Universe, Slade Wilsonhas a different place for me. Deathstroke(U.S.) is one of the biggest shames of the Warner Brothers’ inability to build a solid structure for years. In fact, there was a Deathstroke in DCEU, played by Joe Manganiello. We were even going to see him as the main villain in batman, directed and starring Ben Affleck. But of course this project was shelved and Manganiello announced his retirement from the role.
Asked in a recent interview if he would reprise His Lifetroke, the accomplished actor repliedbluntly, “No, I gave up that dream a long time ago.” The last time we saw him talking to Lex Luthor in the final part of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, there was a glimmer of hope. Now we see that light go out. Deathstroke, who is also part of the team alongside Cyborg, Batman, Flash and Mera in the Knightmare script, also included in Snyder Cut, will not take part in a potentially evil Superman battle.
With Ben Affleck-style Batman plans shelved, perhaps more excitingly, DC will go down a completely different path on the Superman side as matt reevesprepares for “In The Batman.” Knightmare’s potential, like most DCEU ideas, faded before it even came out. Maybe we’ll see Deathstroke in DC movies in the years to come, but it’s almost certain we won’t see Joe Manganiello.
