Koichi Sugiyama, composer of the Dragon Quest series, died on September 30 at the age of 90 from septic shock.
Sugiyama, the oldest video game composer according to the Guinness World Records book, has composed more than 500 songs for the Dragon Quest series to date, starting with the original game in 1986. His last job was composing music for the upcoming Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate.
The funeral for Sugiyama was held by family and friends. Square Enix plans to hold a memorial service for Sugiyama at some point in the future. However, no date has yet been set.
