Konami said that exactly a month ago, he shook hands with Antoine Griezmann, a French professional footballer who plays for FC Barcelona, and that Girezmann had a world-famous Yu-Gi-Oh! He announced that he would be the official brand ambassador for THE COLLECTION CARD GAME. This collaboration was short-lived because of Griezmann’s subsequent video.
Over the weekend, videos emerged of Griezmann and teammate Ousmane Dembele at a hotel in Japan, espn reported, in which the pair mocked the hotel’s staff. Konami ended his deal with Griezmann by not being tolerant of this racially stinking video.
“I have always been against all forms of discrimination,” Griezmann said on Twitter. In the last few days, some people have tried to portray me as someone I’m not. I absolutely deny the accusations made against me and I apologize to my Japanese friends if I offended them.”
Konami said they will not tolerate any form of discrimination, Yu-Gi-Oh! In light of the latest developments, they decided to terminate the contract with Griezmann, which they announced as a content ambassador.
Konami has also had a partner agreement with Barcelona since 2016 and has asked the club to disclose details of the incident and take action against such behaviour in the future.
You can watch the video in this Twitter message.
In the video, Dembele griezmann says, “All these ugly faces, you’re not ashamed so we can play PES, are you?” and then zooms the camera in on asian hotel staff and taunts them with their tongues. “What kind of language is that?” says Dembele. Hotel staff clearly don’t understand these French languages.
Barcelona also issued an apology last night.
