League of Legends announced the location and format of the 2021 World Championship in a statement on the official electronic sports website LoL Espors.

The League of Legends 2021 World Championship will begin on October 5th in the recently renovated Hall A of the Laugardalshöll indoor sports arena and conclude with the final on November 6th. The tournament calendar is as follows:

Qualifiers: October 5-9

Group stage: 11-13 October and 15-18 October

Quarterfinals: October 22-25

Semi-finals: October 30-31

Grand final: November 6

At the 2021 World Championships, 22 teams from all over the world will face off in three different stages: qualifying, groups and qualifiers. All stages will take place in Hall A of the Laugardalshöll arena in Reykjavik

Ten teams will compete in the qualifying phase.

Teams from ranked 1st in the following regions:

Brazil – CBLoL: RED Canids Kalunga
Japan – LJL: DetonatioN FocusMe
Oceania – LCO: PEACE
Commonwealth of Independent States – LCL: Unicorns of Love
Latin America – LLA: Infinity Esports
Turkey – SL: Galatasaray Esports
The team from 2nd place in the following region:

Southeast Asia – PCS: Beyond Gaming
The team from 3rd place in the following region:

North America – LCS: Cloud9
Teams from ranked 4th in the following regions:

China – LPL: LNG Esports
Korea – LCK: Hanwha Life Esports

These 10 teams will be divided into two groups of five by the draw and will compete to become one of the four teams that will advance to the group stage. Each team will face all the other teams in the group once. The first-place teams from both groups will automatically advance to the group stage. The teams in third and fourth place will face each other in the five-game series, with the winning teams facing the other group runners-up for the last two places in the group stage. Two teams from VCS will not be able to participate in the tournament.

There will be a total of 16 teams with 12 new additions to the four teams that have qualified in the group stage:

Top three teams in LCK (Korea) (DWG KIA, Gen.G, T1), LPL (China) (FunPlus Phoenix, EDward Gaming, Royal Never Give Up) and LEC (Europe) (MAD Lions, Fnatic, Rogue)
Top two teams in the LCS (North American) rankings (100 Thieves, Team Liquid)
First team in PCS (Southeast Asia) rankings (PSG. Talon Esports)

These 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four and will meet twice with all other teams in each team group. The top two teams in each group will advance to the qualifying stage.

During the qualifying phase, the remaining eight teams in the tournament will face each other in single elimination groups, where they will play a five-match series, and the quarterfinals, semifinals and final will continue. The two finalists will play a five-game series, with the winner becoming the 2021 League of Legends World Champion.

Matches in the qualifying and group stages will start at 14.00. Quarterfinals and the aftermath are 3:00 p.m.
