Police in Japan say they have arrested a man who sold altered recording files for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The man, reported by BSN News and identified by Dexerto, was detained in Japan on July 8 for violating the Anti-Unfair Competition Act.
The recording files in question were said to have been modified to improve player abilities and add rare items that are difficult to obtain in the game.
Zelda registration files sold online through an auction website earned a total of 10 million yen (about €65,000).
Earlier this year, The Pokémon Company took steps to block players who changed their registration data in Pokémon: Sword and Shield. The company said users will not be able to use the game’s online services if they are caught using the modified data.
