Details are beginning to emerge about the new game in the Mass Effect series, based on the sci-fi series of publisher EA and developer BioWare. The first three Mass Effect games will all be made with the Unreal Engine 3 engine, while the new game will be made with Unreal Engine 5.
BioWare once started using EA’s Frostbite engine for all its games. The transition wasn’t easy. The first two Dragon Age games were made with the studio’s own Eclipse Engine releases, and according to Mike Laidlaw, this change was the main reason dragon age 2’s Exalted March expansion was cancelled. Frostbite has a lot of trouble with animations, and the team is reportedly developing the new Mass Effect game with UE5.
BioWare also recently released a job ad. The job ads say, “Looking for talented programmers with UE4 and UE5 experience.” Jeff Grubb, who has come to prominence with leaks on these ads and newly acquired information, reports that the game was developed with UE5.
