Microsoft was another firm that announced it would move on the metaverse front following Facebook’s name and shape-shifting move.
At the Microsoft Ignite 2021 conference, the company’s CEO Satya Nadella stated that they plan to bring the digital world and the physical world together. “When we talk about Metaverse, we mean a new platform, as well as new types of applications. We can compare this to reviews of the web and websites in the early 90s. In a sense, metaverse computing allows us to apply real world and real world into the world, to bring reality to any digital space,” says Nadella.
While Microsoft’s metaverse-related work is initially focused on company-oriented applications, Xbox is also in the plans. Nadella says that in fact, some of the game brands they already have can be considered as a metaverse example, halo, Minecraft, Flight Simulator are metaverses, now in a sense in a 2D environment, moving these games to size 3 is on the agenda and that is their plan. When we think about it, it is not at all wrong, especially in the case of Microsoft Flight Simulator, we see a good example of how the real world and cyberspace can be intruded.
To sum it up: Microsoft does not intend to lag behind in this field, it seems that they aim to be one of the first companies to take the first step. We will see what repercussions this will have in the game world in the coming period, we are following it.
