Minecraft, which gained an online mod market after switching rights entirely to Microsoft, has since added $350 million to Microsoft’s coffers. Announcing third-quarter data the other day, Microsoft said Minecraft generated a total of $15.5 billion in revenue.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced at a shareholder meeting that players have made 1 billion downloads from the Minecraft market. Microsoft generated an additional $350 million in revenue from this market, which opened in 2017. Of course, the sharing of this income has not been officially disclosed.
In short, nadella’s explained amount includes a section left to mod developers. Microsoft receives less than 50 percent of mod sales in the Minecraft market, according to reports. However, it is pleasing that mod manufacturers can make money from this.
