When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , the last game of the series, which is eagerly awaited by the players, is received on Steam, it was not clear what kind of process it would require. Because since Microsoft announced that it was entering a purchase process for Activision Blizzard, this was one of the expected answers.
What will happen to Battle.net if Modern Warfare 2 is acquired through Steam?
After Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard, almost all fans of the two companies were already anticipating that the new upcoming main games would eventually come to Steam as well. This information was later confirmed, but some of the players were still waiting for Activision’s leading gaming platform, Battle.net, to intervene in some way.
One speculation was that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 could bring a simplified launcher version that would work alongside Steam in the same way that Battle.net did to EA Origins. However, the latest information proves that this will not be the case. According to CharlieIntel, the Steam version of Modern Warfare 2 will not use Battle.net, but instead Activision ID. This means that a match will be made between Steam accounts and Battle.net.
It’s also worth noting that by pre-linking their Steam account to their Activision ID, the games will be able to get a number of extra Modern Warfare 2 pre-order bonuses in Warzone and Vanguard games. This means that players are encouraged to link their accounts early. When the game comes out at the end of October, this is actually a good opportunity to play without any problems.
