In the past, it was easier to examine the game. The number of games that came out was small because there were not so many independent producers, and the types of games were not so homogeneous. The games we examined with titles such as “Action” and “Sports” were replaced by genres such as “First Person, Co-op, Roguelike”. If you’ve played Gunfire Reborn, you actually know more or less what this genre is. Instead of playing Borderlands with four people and progressing slowly, it is obviously very smart to make a game where you can progress by clearing the enemies coming in the mini arena modules that you can play quickly. Mythforce is also a passenger of this genre. However, in doing so, it combines both a click more difficult structure and the sweetest visual language I have ever seen.
Mythforce actually has a very interesting style. The game is set in a He-man-like world. When you look at the visuals for a few seconds, you already understand, the visual language of the game has officially come out of the Masters of the Universe series. Take heroes, enemies, objects in the environment and put them in He-Man and he will never grin. In the game itself, there is no strong character like a He-man. The theme is a little more about whether the side characters could have survived by joining forces in a world without a super-powered hero.
I don’t know if it will change in the future, but Mythforce is clearly designed to be played by four people; Even though you can play as one person, the real fun comes out in Co-Op. This game is clearly designed to be played with four people. Knight Victoria is on tank duty, while Maggie the mage takes control of the area. Rico and Hawkins were the characters who hit the real damage. In my personal experience, Victoria is the main character who should be in the game, especially against the level monsters. Maggie also relieves normal levels, while the damaging characters only affect how quickly the game progresses. It is possible to play the game with 1-2 people.
The characters have 3 abilities in total. As you level up, it is possible to improve them or change their effects with magical weapons. With the exception of Rogue, almost all of them are based on working with other characters. For example, Hawkins slows down a crowd with his arrow, while Maggie can inflict serious damage on enemies who cannot escape with his field spell.
The creature balance is also not bad in this regard. Beyond the skeletons that originally came with the intention of cookies, there are mushrooms that grow and shrink, sweet enemies in the style of goblins trying to lure the player into traps.
Four People enter the skeleton during the feast
I can’t help but compare Mythforce to Gunfire Reborn. Although it is as difficult as GF Reborn, the tempo of this game is much, much lower. Sometimes, if you quickly clear the enemies in the room, you wait about 10 seconds for new ones to arrive. With a bit of an emphasis on close-middle-distance fights, even if you have a super character, the feeling of “I’m destroying everything” never comes. The game requires you to play together, support and hang out together until the last moment.

It’s a little too early to judge about Mythforce because it feels so much that it’s at the beginning of Early Access. Problems such as repetitive episodes, lack of variety of weapons and features, and unsuitability for single player play seem a bit repulsive, but the visual language it captures is tremendous. I believe that producer Beamdog can handle this game. They just need to step a little outside the mentality of four-man team play and start allowing for those extremely powerful skills and different builds that are at the core of Roguelikes.
Pro:
- The visual language is AMAZING
- The section designs are very nice
Cons:
- Not suitable for single player play
- Currently their servers are empty
- Episodes repeat and the pace is low
- It is not possible to make interesting builds
INTERIM DECISION: Mythforce is a game that is not played as well as it seems for now. We’ll see what happens after we get out of early access.
